Young Adults and MAT: Evolving Best Practices for our Highest Risk Clients
Course Description: The Substance Use Disorder field has been splintered for much of the last 50 years in regards to what is the most effective course of treatment for Addiction… MAT or Abstinence Based Treatment? The result is that both forms of treatment often continue to serve clients in a fragmented, non-integrated fashion. This presentation will explore the history of both Medication Assisted Treatment and Abstinence Based Treatment. The program will explore the outcomes associated with both MAT and Abstinence based Treatment, outcomes specifically in the Young Adult population and the challenges and barriers that both forms of treatment face and experience. The presentation will ultimately seek to present possible integrated solutions for clients suffering from substance use disorders. The presentation will also explore the challenges associated with serving young adults with Substance Use Disorders with ABT and MAT treatment modalities. Learning Objectives: Attendees will be able to state the 3 FDA approved Medication Assisted Treatment medications available today for Opioid Use Disorder. Attendees will be able to state 3 reasons that clients succeed in Abstinence Based Treatment. Attendees will be able state 3 reasons why clients succeed in Medication Assisted Treatment Biography: Crystal Parish, LPC is currently the Program Director for Silvermist, a residential program is Butler PA that primarily treats young adults with substance use disorders. Prior to her employment at Silvermist, Crystal was the clinical manager for multiple outpatient locations at Gateway Rehabilitation Center for 4 years as well as a therapist at Gateway for 7 years. While at Gateway, Crystal provided outpatient services for both adults and adolescents diagnosed with substance use disorders. Crystal’s employment history also includes community based and family- based services for adolescents and their families for 15 years. Crystal received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a minor in psychology in 2004 from Indiana University of PA and her Master’s degree in Community and Agency Counseling from California University of PA in 2011. Crystal is Licensed Professional Counselor and is Certified in Family Structur Continuing Education Credit: Application has been made and approved by LPCA-GA for 3 continuing education hours Application has been made and approved by GSCSW for 3 continuing education hours Refund Policy: Requests must be in writing.
