STAGE PLAY - Bourbon at the Border

Saturday, October 26, 2019, 2:30 AM

BOURBON AT THE BORDER takes a gritty look into the lives of two ordinary people who gave up everything during the Civil Rights movement but have now been forgotten. May and Charlie joined hundreds of other Americans down in Mississippi during the summer of 1964 for a massive voter registration drive and their lives would change forever. Their activism was met with cruel, harsh violence that left many civil rights workers dead and May and Charlie in way over their heads. Years later, May and Charlie are still suffering from the violence they suffered during that long "Freedom Summer." The damage has twisted Charlie's love for May into something she can no longer recognize. May struggles to get Charlie to leave Detroit so that they can start a new life. And when Charlie gets a new job as a truck driver, the madness of that summer boils over until it threatens all of their lives.
