Atlanta Wind Symphony Opens 40th Season with Free "American Classics" Concert

The Atlanta Wind Symphony launches its 40th season with an inspiring concert of music by American composers on Sunday, October 13, at 3:00 p.m. at Milton High School (13025 Birmingham Hwy, Milton, GA 30004). The free concert will feature Esprit de Corps (Robert Jager), Symphony For Band (Vincent Persichetti), Avelynn’s Lullaby (Joel Puckett), American Salute (Morton Gould), Four Scottish Dances (Malcolm Arnold, trans. Paynter), and Washington Post (John Philip Sousa).

The 2019-2020 season marks the Atlanta Wind Symphony's 40th anniversary as an all-volunteer community wind ensemble dedicated to delivering inspiring performances of quality wind band literature. Comprised of more than 60 adult musicians ranging in experience from music educators to hobbyists, the group has performed at Carnegie Hall and has received the John Philip Sousa Foundation's Sudler Silver Scroll, North America's most prestigious award for community concert bands.

Atlanta Wind Symphony Music Director David Kehler serves as Director of Bands and Professor of Music at Kennesaw State University where he oversees all aspects of the University’s expanding band program; teaches courses in instrumental conducting, symphonic repertoire, and 20th century music; and serves as Music Director and Conductor of the KSU Wind Ensemble. The concert will also feature Associate Conductor Chris Shumick. Shumick is in his eighth year as Director of Bands at Milton High School.
