Atlanta Symphony: Beethoven & Bernstein
ASO: Beethoven & Bernstein
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Principal Guest Conductor Donald Runnicles, performs works by Beethoven and Bernstein, who both broke with convention to explore new paths of expression. Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony is so evocative that American entrepreneur and animator Walt Disney built a segment around it for his 1940 film Fantasia. Bernstein crafted Halil as a musical response to the tragic death of an Israeli flutist and soldier, and these Atlanta Symphony Hall concerts will feature Principal Flute Christina Smith as soloist. You’ll also enjoy an appetizer to the Atlanta Symphony’s upcoming presentation of Beethoven’s Fidelio, a magnificent overture written for that opera and later set aside, Leonore Overture No. 3.
