TRN306: ODI for BI APPS training (Alpharetta, September 2018)

Monday, September 10, 2018, 4:00 PM

Written for ODI 11g Developers, this course is meant to not just show developers and operators “how to”, but give them the "why" behind it. Over three days, these users are shown how to work in ODI Studio and create load plans, as well as navigate Configuration Manager and Functional Setup Manager (domain configuration, step by step project setup). This course has been developed for Oracle BI Applications , but is just as relevant if your organization is on an earlier release of Oracle BI Applications 11g. DAY 1 SECTION 1: USING CONFIGURATION MANAGER AND FUNCTIONAL SETUP MANAGER (8 HRS) Product Overview Objective: Attendees will be given a tour of the BI Applications core components from infrastructure to Oracle Data Integrator, including overviews of ETL phases and the different kinds of knowledge modules. After the introduction, attendees will learn about the components further by starting all of the services in the order needed to begin working with BI Applications and ODI Studio. Using Configuration Manager Objective: Attendees will log into the Configuration Manager and be taught how to set up a source instance (Transactional DB) and enable a BI Application offering to begin utilizing the prebuilt solutions. Using Functional Setup Manager Objective: This session will be used to introduce the attendee with all of the steps needed to create an Implementation Project. This will include configuring the offering selected in Configuration manager, creating an Implementation Project, navigating the tasks in the Project, assigning tasks to users, and completing tasks within the Project. System Setup, Data Load Parameters, and Domain Mappings Objective: In this session, the attendee will return to Configuration Manager to learn how to configure the System Setup parameters, understand and set Data Load Parameters. They will then learn how to navigate and manage Domain Member Mappings, and even create custom warehouse members. Running a Load Plan Objective: In this session, attendees will create a load plan in Configuration Manager and learn how to monitor it in ODI Console. Then attendees are introduced to ODI Studio and explore how to monitor from within this tool. The differences between ODI Console and ODI Studio will be explained and which tool is best for certain scenarios. DAY 2 SECTION 2: FOLLOWING THE DATA (4 HRS) Verifying Data from the Full Load Objective: In this session, attendees will query the DB tables to see if data has indeed been populated. They will then log into OBIEE and run a very simple analysis to view the data as a user or business analyst might. ODI Studio Deep Dive Objective: Attendees will begin in ODI Studio by learning the Operator Navigator to see the sessions that ran and rows that were inserted, as well as the SQL statements that were generated. Then they will use the Designer Navigator to understand how all of the interfaces and models work together to build those SQL statements. SECTION 3: CATEGORY 1 CUSTOMIZATIONS (4 HRS) Isolating Customizations Objective: In this session, attendees will learn how to create custom folders, duplicate out of the box code and use version control. They will understand best practices and important tips to reduce future upgrade issues with customizations. Model Customization Objective: Attendees will learn how to take existing models and add custom rows.   Interface Customization Objective: Attendees will follow previous model changes and apply them to interfaces. They will explore how BI Application delivered interfaces are structured and follow through the different interfaces to ensure the model changes flow through the entire warehouse. Running a Custom Load Plan Objective: In this session, attendees will create a custom load plan in Configuration Manager and learn how to add the customized scenarios to it in ODI Studio. Attendees then will monitor the load plan in the tool of their choice. DAY 3 SECTION 4: CATEGORY 2 CUSTOMIZATIONS (8 HRS) Isolating
